Fiction Writing
with Beth Underdown

Tuesdays 7 pm - 8.30 pm from 21 April 2015

£35 for full course

This course is designed to develop your fiction writing, whether you have just begun your first short story or are embarking on your first novel. Each of the five workshops will focus on a specific element of fiction writing, using a range of activities to develop critical skills and establish good writing practice. The course will include the option of a ‘reading prescription’ geared specifically towards your own work, as well as writing tasks to work on at home. You will also receive an optional extra tutorial outside the workshop, to discuss tailored feedback on a writing sample, synopsis or chapter plan. The course will conclude with a session on finding an agent and the publication process, including a Q&A with Dylan Thomas prize shortlisted guest author Marli Roode.

Week 1: What are we writing? / Narration and perspective

Week 2: Character, dialogue and voice

Week 3: Plotting and pacing

Week 4: Building worlds

Week 5: Editing and revising / Authorship and publication (including Q&A with guest author)

If you’d like to discuss any element of the course further, please contact Beth Underdown on biunderdown@gmail.com. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided in each workshop.
